Taming of the Shrew
A raucous shebeen somewhere in Johannesburg:
Two actors – him & her – eagerly await the arrival of their company for a high profile performance in front of a would-be Lord. No props, no costumes, no other actors in sight leaves them no choice but to perform the whole play empty-handed. She wants to play the macho man (Petruchio) so he has to play the shrewish wife (Katherine).
What follows is a feerless, irreverent, gender-bending romp of a play always on the brink of collapse. With only an approximate grasp of the script, but packed with insight, these two stranded actors launch into an unprecedented & generously playful encounter with their audience, bringing Shakespeare’s early comedy to life in new and unfamiliar cadences
