Recruitment Heritage & Arts Education Manager
12 December 2017
Christ Church Clapham is looking for a freelance education and learning specialist, to design and deliver an exciting 18 months programme of heritage, arts and learning activity exploring; the journeys of people, the heritage of the locality and the church as an historic place of refuge, sanctuary and learning.
Christ Church Clapham is situated in Union Grove Clapham, London Borough of Lambeth, and was built in 1862 by Benjamin Ferrey in the Gothic Revival Style, a style that went on to form the Arts and Crafts Movement. The immediate area around Christ Church has a rich and diverse history, from the terraced slum cottages and Victorian workhouses to the current local authority housing estates providing stark contrast to the wealth of more central parts of Clapham. Since as early as the 1660s, there has been large- scale population movement in the area, with families escaping the city during the Great Plague and the Fire of London, the more recent international Windrush migration in 1948 and with refugees from the Nigerian Civil War (often known as the Biafran War) in 1967
In 2012, Christ Church Clapham achieved Heritage Lottery Funding (HLF) to conserve and refurbish the stunning gothic church and to establish a learning centre as the hub of the community.
